Shed Siding Repair & Repaint — Golden, CO
Damaged red metal siding replaced with new LP SmartSide, then the entire shed airless-sprayed in a durable, deep blue.
The Project
A Golden Shed With Dented Metal Siding and a Tired Look
This shed on a Golden, CO property had red metal siding that had taken a beating — dented, creased panels that no coat of paint could fix. A dent in metal siding can't be sanded out or filled, and fresh paint over a bent panel only draws more attention to it. The owner wanted the walls done right: replaced with new LP SmartSide engineered wood siding, then painted so the whole shed looks like a purpose-built outbuilding instead of a patched-up one.
We handled both halves of the job with one crew: the shed siding repair — removing the damaged metal and installing LP SmartSide — and the painting, with the new walls and the doors sprayed in a deep blue. The existing metal roof and white trim stayed as they were. See how it came together in our shed siding repair & painting process below, or learn more about our exterior painting work in Golden, CO.

On the Job
Airless Spray Painting a Shed in Golden, CO
An airless sprayer lays down a smooth, even coat across textured siding faster and more uniformly than a brush or roller can. That matters on a shed like this one, where lap marks and thin spots show up in full Colorado sun. Here's a short clip of the airless sprayer going over the new shed siding.
Spraying is only as clean as the prep around it. On this shed, the existing white trim was masked with tape and paper so the new blue stops in a crisp, straight line at every edge.

The Siding Repair
Replacing Metal Shed Siding With LP SmartSide
From a distance, this shed looked like a simple repaint candidate: red metal siding, a clean white roof, and a solid footprint. Up close, the metal panels told a different story. Several were dented and creased, and metal doesn't repair the way wood does — you can't sand and fill a crease, and once a panel has been bent its profile is permanently out of shape.
That's why the right fix for this Golden shed was replacement, not repainting. We removed the damaged metal siding and looked at what was underneath: the framing the siding fastens to. Where the structure called for it, fresh lumber went in so the new siding would have a straight, solid surface to attach to — you can see the new, light-colored board running across the wall in the photo.
Then came the new walls. We installed LP SmartSide, an engineered wood siding that arrives factory-primed and accepts paint far better than metal ever will. The panels were fitted to the gable and side walls so the seams run in clean vertical lines, and the existing metal roof and white trim stayed in place instead of being torn out and re-priced.
It's the kind of shed siding repair many Denver-area owners don't realize a painting contractor can take on. Instead of hiring a siding crew, then a separate painter, then coordinating the handoff between them, the repair and the paint happened under one estimate with one crew. If you have a shed, workshop, or detached garage with damaged siding, we can scope both parts together.
How It Works
Our Shed Siding Repair & Painting Process
Step 01
Assess & Estimate
We inspect the damaged siding and the framing behind it, then give a free estimate covering both the repair and the paint.
Step 02
Remove & Rebuild
Damaged metal siding comes off and the wall framing is checked and corrected so the new siding has a straight, solid surface.
Step 03
Install & Mask
Factory-primed LP SmartSide goes up, and the existing trim and surroundings are masked for clean, crisp paint lines.
Step 04
Spray & Finish
The walls and doors are airless-sprayed for even coverage, then the masking comes off and the site is left clean.

The Doors
Painting Shed Doors to Match the New Siding
The shed's double barn doors got the same treatment as the walls. Rather than leaving tired, mismatched doors beside brand-new siding, we repainted them in the same deep blue so the whole front reads as one finished piece. The white diagonal bracing and white door casing stand out sharply against the blue, and the whole opening now ties in with the white trim around the shed corners.
Why It Holds Up
Why LP SmartSide Is a Smart Choice for Shed Siding in Colorado
Colorado is hard on outbuildings. Intense high-altitude sun fades finishes, wind and hail beat on exposed walls, and big temperature swings put constant stress on every seam. A shed has no one inside adjusting the thermostat, so its siding takes all of it.
This shed already showed the downside of thin metal siding: once a panel dents, it stays dented, and the only real repair is replacement. LP SmartSide is an engineered wood siding built differently. It cuts and fastens like wood, so a future repair means swapping a panel rather than fighting a bent sheet. It also arrives factory-primed, giving the paint a better surface to grab than bare or old metal.
But the siding is only half of the system. The paint on top is what protects SmartSide day to day, which is why we didn't treat the painting as an afterthought. Airless spraying puts down an even film across the textured surface, the existing trim was masked so the finish stops where it should, and every coat got the time it needed rather than being rushed.
The result is a shed that no longer looks like a dented metal outbuilding — and a wall system that's much easier to maintain than what it replaced. Our work carries a 2-year workmanship warranty, and a quality repaint every several years keeps the siding protected for the long haul.
Common Questions
Shed Siding Repair & Painting FAQs
Can you replace shed siding and paint it too?
Yes. On this Golden project we removed the damaged metal siding, installed new LP SmartSide, and painted the finished walls and doors. You get one estimate and one crew for both the repair and the paint.
Why replace the metal siding instead of just painting over it?
Paint can't fix a dent or crease — it only covers the color. Dented metal panels stay visibly bent no matter how good the finish is, so replacing the siding gave a straight, even wall that paint could then do justice to.
What is LP SmartSide siding?
LP SmartSide is an engineered wood siding that comes factory-primed and is made to be painted. It installs like conventional wood siding, so individual panels can be replaced later if one is ever damaged.
Why do you spray a shed instead of using a brush and roller?
An airless sprayer applies an even coat across textured siding quickly, without the lap marks and thin spots that can show on large flat walls. Edges, trim and surroundings are masked first so the finish stays exactly where you want it.
Did you paint the roof and trim too?
Not on this project. The existing metal roof and white trim were in good shape, so they were left as they were and masked while the siding and doors were painted. Whether to repaint trim or a roof is something we can scope with you during your estimate.
How much does shed siding replacement and painting cost?
This Golden project, including the siding replacement and the paint, came in between $2,499 and $3,499. Your price depends on the size of the shed, how much siding needs replacing, and the condition of the framing underneath — a free estimate will give you exact numbers.
